That was the day L'Equipe Summer League games started at Pembroke. It was the first day of many emotions, satisfactions, disappointments and above all success.
I have to admit, I am proud that many football lovers, many people from different nations took part in this league.
Like everyone in this league I have a great passion for football. From playing it, to helping children to play the game, to organizing it, helping individuals to have more opportunities to play the game, for fun, to bring people together, for competition.... I'm in for anything related to this game!
Inspired by the World Cup month, on the 15th July 2014 I shared the idea with my friends of forming a five a side amateur team. Everyone forwarded a name for the team... I remember I had a news paper cutting in my bed room from the France sports news paper L'Equipe so I mentioned that name and it was the name that everyone liked most.
One might ask, how from competing I ended up organizing? Sometimes life takes you to totally different places which doesn't even have anything to do with where you end up!
A few months after the amateur team started I got involved in politics. I decided to run for my locality council with the idea to push forward a sports culture, this was during a period in which I was also doing my degree in Physical Education and sports at the University of Malta. I believed I can make a change... Traditionally politicians organize coffee mornings but I had no plan to organize these boring events, and after some brainstorming I decided to organize a football tournament for charity. Not an original idea but maybe it was for the political scene.
It was a successful one! and I can still remember a person telling me that he was surprised how organized it was and that he would imagine me organizing a league. A few days later unfortunately I got to know that I failed in the political race and my political experience stopped there.... but the tournaments didn't!
In June 2015 I organized the second tournament and started experimenting with photos, videos, statistics, communicating with team representatives. Feedback was encouraging and a month later I organized the biggest one day tournament I ever did with 16 teams, and another one day tournament later in that same month!
Being a student and working full time got me to the conclusion that I couldn't give anymore input to the amateur team, and with that died also the idea to compete in the National Futsal league one day, as L'Equipe.
In 2016 and 2017 I was extremely busy with work and studies besides other issues. I still experimented with some events such as PS4 events, some one day football tournaments every now and then, but it was occasionally not an all year round thing.
The biggest things I organized in these years were events in my locality related to getting people active rather than just football, with sports days and walkathons, one in which a nice sum was raised for ALS Malta.
At the end of 2017 I graduated as a Physical Education teacher, started working as a teacher and life started to settle down.
During winter of 2018 the movie the greatest showman was at its peak and I have to admit I liked it too. It was nice to bring different people together, to give something to the audience they've never seen before, not to be afraid to risk.... I think it was a motivation and an inspiration to many in different ways!
One day in February 2018 I laid down on my bed and couldn't sleep, I started thinking about that voice that encouraged me once to organize a league cause in his opinion I organize things well! I had all the right ingredients at last to take the risk. I had time, the encouragement and some experience. I started planning the first Summer League!
The rest is known by most of you, thousand of photos, many videos, statistics, graphics, decisions, fights, awards, prizes...
Now it became OUR STORY
